Should I Study IB Visual Arts?
A student who shows great promise in visualizing and creating reflections of the world through drawing, painting, or photograph (to name but a few methods of production) may benefit from an IB in Visual Arts, particularly if they wish to pursue an artistic future at university level. Both a Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) are available for IB Visual Arts, with slightly higher expectations for the latter compared to the former.
How to get a 7 in Visual Arts?
All students are required to analyse and compare different artworks by different artists. This investigation examines various works of arts from several cultural contexts, asking students to think about the various processes behind their creation. At SL, students are expected to compare a minimum of 3 different artworks by at least 2 different artists over a space of 10-15 pages. HL students on the other hand must include a further reflection on how these analysed pieces inspired or influenced their own work for a further 3-5 pages. A process portfolio that asks students to keep an account of work displaying their experimentation, exploration, manipulation and refinement of different visual arts activities is required. SL students must include at least 2 different forms of visual art, while HL students are expected to include a minimum of 3. Finally, both levels require students to submit work for exhibition along with a curatorial rationale detailing the reasoning behind their selections.
How CANA coaches students to achieve a 7 in IB Visual Arts
In our lessons and courses, CANA’s tutors aid students in their understanding of the core theoretical and practical principles of the visual arts. We will work hard to aid students in their endeavour to create meaningful and valuable artworks, beginning from an initial idea or inspiration and continuing on through actual creation.
Tutors will aid students in their investigation into the cultural context of many different objects, helping them select those for further analysis. They can aid students in presenting the required commentary at either level as well. Additionally, teachers can help students choose which pieces best represent their talent and voice for the exhibition, as well as work with them to produce an exemplary rationale.
